In short

Use the number Ahoya provisions during onboarding, keep the number your callers already dial by forwarding it, or buy a new local number — whichever fits your setup.

Get a number, or forward your existing one — Ahoya
  1. 01Start with your Ahoya number

Onboarding already gave you a working number attached to your receptionist. You can hand this out as-is, or keep your current number and forward it (next step).

  2. 02Keep your number: forward it

In Numbers, choose to connect an existing number. You keep the line your callers already know; you just point it at Ahoya with a short carrier code — no porting, no downtime.

  3. 03Pick how it answers

Choose an answering mode when you connect the line — AI Backup answers only your missed calls, Full AI answers everything, or Ring Me First rings you first. Ahoya shows the exact dial code for your carrier. The Answering modes guide covers how to choose.

Ring Me First is a Growth-plan feature; AI Backup and Full AI are available on every plan.

  4. 04Or buy a new local number

Prefer a fresh line? Search available local numbers by area code and buy one, and Ahoya attaches it to your receptionist automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Will forwarding interrupt my current calls?

No. Forwarding is a carrier setting you apply in minutes with no porting and no downtime — calls keep working the whole time, and you can undo it just as easily.

Can I port my number to Ahoya later?

You can start by forwarding today and decide on a full port later. Forwarding is the fastest way to go live without touching your carrier account.
