Put the AI on your website with web chat
4 min · updated Sep 22, 2026
In short
The same receptionist that answers your phone can answer on your website. Paste one script tag, and visitors get a chat bubble that answers questions, captures their name and number, books appointments against your calendar, and can hand off to a live voice call.
01Install it with one script tag
Open Assistant → Web chat and copy the snippet. Paste it once, just before the closing body tag, on every page you want the chat on. It carries your widget key, so nothing else needs configuring to go live.
The snippet also accepts optional accent colour, launcher label and left/right position — set those in the Web chat tab and the snippet updates itself.
02It knows the same business you do
Web chat reads the same business profile, hours, services and FAQs as your phone assistant, so the two channels answer the same way. Edits you make in the assistant editor apply to both — there is no second setup.
03It asks who it's talking to
By default the visitor gives their name and phone number (email optional) before they can type, so a chat that goes nowhere still leaves you a lead. You can switch that off in the Web chat tab if you'd rather let people type first.
04It books in real time
When your calendar is connected, the chat checks real availability and writes the booking during the conversation — not afterwards. It can only ever confirm a time your calendar actually returned as open.
05Visitors can switch to a voice call
Turn on the voice option and a visitor can move from typing to talking to your AI without leaving the page. Those minutes come out of your plan, the same as a phone call.
06Chats land in their own inbox
Every conversation shows up under Chats in your dashboard with the full transcript, the captured lead details and any booking — the same view you get for calls.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate plan for web chat?
No. Web chat is available on every plan, including the trial.
Does the chat widget slow my site down?
The script is loaded async, so it never blocks your page from rendering.
Can I use web chat without a phone number?
Yes. The widget only needs your business profile, so you can run the chat on your site before (or instead of) pointing a phone line at Ahoya.
